News from Francis X. Lupien

Francis X. Lupien

GHS classmates who attended Sacred Heart School may remember Francis X. Lupien, who graduated from Worcester Boys Trade in 1960, Fitchburg State College in 1965 and completed his Masters at Fitchburg State College in 1968. Francis taught in Clinton Public Schools and at Narragansett Regional High School, retiring in 1994. He also operated Lupien Machine and Welding from 1965 to 2005, doing fabrication and repair for local contractors, custom work, and restoration. Francis also repaired and sold firearms.


Francis and his wife, Anne Marie now live in Florida, where he enjoys trap, skeet, and target shooting, reading books, and repairing sports equipment. Fran is fond of historical documentaries.

News From Nancy Haynes Poole



Nancy Haynes Poole

Nancy (Haynes) Poole lives with her husband Don in Gilford, NH. They have been married for 46 years and have two children - a son, Nate, who also lives in Gilford, and a daughter, Jen, who is married and has three boys ages 7, 12, and 14. Jen is a Hospice Nurse for Laconia Community Health and Hospice and lives in Laconia. Both Nancy and Don are ordained ministers and are currently organizing and conducting Neighborhood Bible Study groups. In addition, Nancy works as an office manager for a local real restate company and is a licensed Notary Public. Nancy and her daughter Jen are also on the New England Steering Committee for the organization Women of the Word, which holds inter-generational and non-denominational conferences accross the United States.

Nancy attended elementary and junior high school in Westminster before enrolling at Gardner High School.

News From Barry Glinski


Barry A. Glinski of Worcester, MA is recovering from back surgery and reports that he is doing better every day. Barry has amassed more than 700 wins as a baseball coach in Worcester, leading Quinsigamond Community College and Assumption College to successes over many years. He was inducted into the Coaches Association Hall of Fame on January 3, 2002. Barry served as the Athletic Director at Quinsigamond during several periods over 25 years and was professor of mathematics at the college for more than 30 years. In 2006, Barry had knee replacement surgery and in subsequent years served as Hitting Coach with Rich Gedman's Worcester Tornadoes baseball team. Barry graduated from Springfield College in 1964.

News from Alice Faith Winter Empie

Alice Winter Empie and Jeff Empie - New Years 2010

Alice Winter has been married to Jeff Empie for 43 years. The couple has two children and five grandchildren. Daughter Laurel lives in Fairfax, VA and is a civil engineer. Son Derek is a lawyer in Indianapolis. Alice notes that "All the grandchildren are terrific. We truly treasure our time with them, and after trips to visit, we come home more aware of our ages."


Alice was a special education teacher for 31 years, mostly with high school students. During the last eleven years of her career, Alice was director of the Learning Laboratory at a private school in Atlanta. Jeff worked in industry for twenty years and left management to become a professor at Georgia Tech. Alice and Jeff have lived in Minnesota, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, and Georgia.


Alice and Jeff now live in a retirement community in Griffn, GA. Alice does water aereobics, works on Nautilus machines, and is learning line dancing, bocce ball, and pickle ball. She and Jeff are taking ballroom dancing lessons, finishing the basement in their new home, and volunteering at the local food bank and soup kitchen.
Alice graduated from Bates College and received her M.A. degree at the University of Minnesota. Life has not slowed her down.
